In 2019, during an LGBT parade in Białystok, Poland, rainbow flags were burned in the streets. By early 2020, so-called “LGBT-free zones” covered more than 30% of the country.

As a Polish designer living in the UK, I felt frustrated and powerless watching the growing hostility back home. This experience pushed me to create a meaningful project, a way to channel that frustration into something constructive and expressive.

The result was “I Am Polish”, a campaign addressing the rise of homophobia in Poland. It’s built on the idea that intolerance is learned, and that if self-fulfilling prophecies can fuel division, they can also be harnessed to foster empathy and change.

  • Issue: Growing homophobia in Poland

  • Audience: General public of Poland

  • Goal: Encourage reflection and increase tolerance

  • Method: Using the self-fulfilling prophecy as a positive communication tool
